3+ months of mining earnings missing

I was mining early this year with 7 x GeForce 1070 rig running Windows 10 / NiceHash 2, and receiving weekly transfers to my address, as I verified on Blockchain Explorer. Then I was pretty busy in Spring/Summer and stopped checking the blockchain for transfers to my address, although I did note nearly every day that the rig was still performing work and sending shares during those months. Finally I checked the address again on Aug 10, and saw that the last payout was April 15. And on NiceHash’s website my address’s unpaid balance had become zero. So I stopped the rig, upgraded from NiceHash 2 to NiceHash 3 software, and got assigned a new address in their new system, and now it seems to be working again, showing daily increasing balance. But my question is, why was their system continuing to provide work and accept shares for 3+ months if they weren’t paying for that work?

I have brought the issue to support, but they have not been able to offer any explanation, other than I must not have actually been mining, which I know is not true. I also posted to r/NiceHash, but it got deleted as “spam”.

Has any one else had a similar occurrence with NiceHash?
